1. Percentages

   After a 15% decrease a price is £68. Find the original price.

   Worked answer

   1. After the decrease the price is 85% of the original: multiplier 0.85.
   2. Original \(=68\div0.85=80\).

   Answer: £80

2. Algebraic Fractions

   Solve \(\dfrac{3}{x-1}-\dfrac{2}{x+1}=1\).

   Worked answer

   1. Multiply every term by \((x-1)(x+1)\): \(3(x+1)-2(x-1)=(x-1)(x+1)\).
   2. \(x+5=x^2-1\), so \(x^2-x-6=0\).
   3. \((x-3)(x+2)=0\), giving \(x=3\) or \(x=-2\).

   Answer: \(x=3\) or \(x=-2\)

3. Sequences

   An arithmetic sequence has first term 7 and common difference 4. Find the 20th term.

   Worked answer

   1. \(u_n=a+(n-1)d\).
   2. \(u_{20}=7+19\times4=83\).

   Answer: 83
