How to practise for a non-calculator paper
- Learn one method at a time. Read the method, follow the two worked examples, then try the questions without looking.
- Use it inside a topic. The 0580 questions by topic label every question calculator or non-calculator: do the non-calculator ones by hand.
- Write every step. Method marks are for working the examiner can see, so set out each line, even when you can do it in your head.
- Leave answers exact when asked. Fractions, surds and π stay as they are; check what form the question wants.
- Check with an estimate. Round each number to 1 significant figure to see if your answer is about the right size.
- Time a full paper. Sit a Cambridge specimen Paper 1 or Paper 2 from our 0580 past papers page, then our 0580 Paper 2 prediction paper (Extended) when it opens.
- Fix what went wrong. Open My mistakes and do a Skill Builder on those skills.
